Established by Save the Children Youth Sweden, "allan" is a social intiative where 14 year old boys meet once a week to talk about what it means to be a young adult male in today's society. In the group the views of the participants are taken seriously and listened to with interest and respect. Here they are encouraged to take a critical perspective on social norms and to reflect on their own behavior in terms of power and gender. They are empowered to make their own decisions independent of cultural notions of gender and sexuality.
Save the Children has over 10,000 youth volunteers all over the world, and thousands more inspiring stories. It's all about bringing to life the principles outlined in the UN's Convention on the Rights of the Child, and making a real difference.
We believe that Children and youth participation are key components to working towards fulfilling the convention on the rights of the child. There are several reasons to improve the child and youth participation in Save the Children:
• Young persons have innovative and creative approaches.
• Young persons are open-minded and have a new perspective.
• Young persons have access to new and different arenas.
• Young persons have distinctive knowledge and experiences, exclusive to their age group.
• Young persons are enthusiastic and have time to invest.
• Young persons can exchange experiences and knowledge, organise and support each other.
• Young persons can encourage and exchange initiatives, experiences with Save the Children Members.
We are stronger, wider and more powerful working together for a better world!
