THE SOCIO-PROFESSIONAL INTEGRATION OF THE YOUTHS LIVING IN CARE INSTITUTIONS

There are two categories of institutionalized youths:

The youth who has a family, whom he/she visits periodically and who visits his/her. Maintaining the contact with the family contributes to the establishing of a social identity, to developing a sense of belonging together with making the family responsible in supporting their own child.

The orphan or abandoned youth does not enjoy his/her family’s or relatives’ support, the lack of family contacts and environment leading to poor social adaptability skills. Compared to the first category, the orphan or abandoned youth must leave the institution immediately after finishing his/her studies, often without having a plan for the future. The solution for survival is to find a job and a dwelling in order to be able to organize his/her personal life, and when it is not possible, the youth will become a “street youth”.
